RelyAid/USTA Challenger History
Sacramento, California
October 1 – 9, 2011
$100,000 Total Prize Money

The 3rd Annual USTA RelyAid Natomas/USTA Challenger will take place October 1st – October 9th at the Natomas Racquet Club. This site has been host not only to the Challengers but previously to Pro Circuit Futures Tournaments.

This year’s tournament will see a big change as it has grown to the $100,000 level, one of only two events of that size in the United States! This is a direct result of the previous year’s successes as the USTA has recognized the Natomas Racquet Club site for its ability to host a world-class pro tournament.

Being able to host these USTA Pro Circuit Tournament has allowed us to see some of today’s top players in the early stages of their careers. Four years ago, we saw the likes of Sam Querry, John Isner and Kevin Anderson playing in our events. Currently, Sam is ranked #3 in the US and has held a world ranking of #17 while John is the #4 ranked US player with a world ranking of #18. Kevin Anderson has been ranked as high as #33 in the world while also being ranked #1 in his native South Africa.

In our first Challenger tournament at Natomas in 2009, we were entertained by the great play of Santiago Giraldo, who won his first pro tournament and since then has raised his world ranking to #44 while also competing in the Davis Cup for Columbia.

One of the bright new hopes for United States tennis is Ryan Harrison. In 2009, Ryan participated in his very first Challenger level tournament right here at Natomas and even at the age of 17, fought all the way to the semi-finals.

Each year brings an air of excitement as we look forward to seeing a new generation of players use our Challenger event as a springboard to their pro careers. Bring the family out to Natomas Racquet Club and watch world-class tennis right in your backyard!!!
