Natomas Racquet Club Hosts $50,000 Men’s Professional Tennis Tournament
USTA Pro Circuit Challenger Event Draws World Ranked Players to Sacramento October 3--11

Sacramento, CA. (August 12, 2009). Spare Time Clubs announces the Natomas/USTA $50,000 Men’s Professional Tennis Tournament at Natomas Racquet Club October 3—11. The tournament, which is a Challenger Level event on the USTA Pro Circuit, typically features players ranked from #75 to #150 in the world.

“Challengers” are professional tennis tournaments on the USTA Pro Circuit offering between $25,000 and $50,000 in prize money. Challenger tournaments link the “Futures” (entry level professional tournaments offering between $10,000 and $15,000 in prize money) and ATP Tour events like the US Open. Players receive more ranking points per round in Challengers than they do in Futures, enabling them to receive a Top 100 world ranking solely from Challenger level competition. Each year, more than half the players in the US Open Men’s draw have either played or are currently playing on the USTA Pro Circuit.

The Natomas/USTA $50,000 Men’s Professional Tennis Tournament features a singles main draw of 32 players and a doubles main draw of 16 teams. Main Draw play begins Monday, October 5 and concludes with the final matches on Sunday, October 11. The Wildcard Tournament begins on Tuesday, September 29, followed by the Qualifying tournament beginning Saturday, October 3.

Matches will be scheduled throughout the day and on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Admission for spectators is free until the final weekend, when there will be a $5.00 admission charge.

The USTA Pro Circuit is world-class tennis administered at the local level and played on local tennis courts. It’s part of the fabric of communities nationwide—an opportunity for current and new fans to experience the excitement and intensity of the professional game in their own neighborhood.

Glenn Davis, Tournament Director for the Relyaid USTA Men’s $15,000 Professional Futures Tournament at Natomas Racquet Club in June, and now the Tournament Director for the Challenger, says “We are so pleased to have a tournament of this caliber in Sacramento. It’s an opportunity to create a community event and have a lot of fun.” Davis continues, “We’re inviting all of Sacramento’s “tennis legends” to an event on Wednesday evening. We want to recognize their contributions to tennis in our area—without their ongoing dedication to the game a tournament like this would not be possible. We’ll also have a Pro Am, which gives players in the area a chance to play with a touring pro. It’s all part of contributing to and building our community.”

The USTA Pro Circuit California Series consists of three $50,000 Challenger tournaments located in Northern and Southern California. The Natomas/USTA $50,000 Men’s Professional Tennis Tournament is the first in the series, followed by tournaments in Tiburon and Calabasas.

Natomas Racquet Club is located at 2450 Natomas Park Drive, Sacramento, California, 91833.
